Facial Aging
Facial aging is something that we all eventually encounter. Repeated expressions, environmental pollutants, and the sun can all really take their toll on the delicate tissue of the face. Many of my Athens facial rejuvenation patients in their 30’s and 40’s come to me with cosmetic concerns like the appearance of crow’s feet, wrinkles around the mouth, and overall “crepeness” of the skin that makes them feel like they look older than they really are.
If patients are not yet in need of facial plastic surgery, I often recommend non-surgical facial rejuvenation treatments like wrinkle injectables and facial fillers. For patients who don’t warrant those measures and those looking to delay the development of more severe cosmetic complaints, quality skincare products are key.
Skincare Products that Help with Facial Aging
Retinol and retinoic acid (vitamin A derivatives), as well as niacin (vitamin B) containing products, are effective tools for maintaining youthful skin. Vitamin A is a powerful antioxidant that helps eliminate free radicals in the skin that affect the rate at which healthy skin cells reproduce. Regular use of vitamin A-rich products like our Revision Skin Care Retinol Repair Serum can help minimize the appearance of breakouts and fine lines while also improving overall skin surface texture.
Niacin and other vitamin B-containing products are helpful in addressing the effects of the previous photodamage like hyperpigmentation. Like Retinoids (those products containing some form of retinol or retinoic acid), niacin-based products help patients slough the dead, pore-clogging skin cells contributing to a dull skin appearance. Niacin, one of the active anti-aging ingredients in Obagi® Nu-Derm line of products, is also helpful in restoring the skin’s moisture barrier that deteriorates with age and can leave us susceptible to further environmental damage.
