Microneedling Procedure

Microneedling is a non-invasive, non-surgical procedure that uses tiny micro-needles to create micro-injuries in the skin, which stimulates collagen production to improve acne scars, fine wrinkles, and the texture and tone of the skin.

During a microneedling procedure, a topical cream may be applied to minimize discomfort. Treatments typically take about 30 minutes. The microneedling device is applied to the treatment area and most patients feel a slight vibration or tingling sensation, which is the device creating controlled skin injury. The body responds by increasing collagen to the treatment area and healing any imperfections. The result is smoother, more vibrant skin.

Microneedling Results & Recovery

After a microneedling procedure, you may appear as though you have a sunburn and the skin may feel warm and tight. Some patients at Pittman experience bruising or swelling which should subside within a few hours. Microneedling can be repeated until you see optimal results, which can take several treatments.

Candidates for Microneedling

Anyone with large pores, fine lines or wrinkles, dull or saggy skin, or acne scars can benefit from microneedling. Microneedling is safe on all skin types but should not be used on skin with an active infection or if you have used Accutane or have had radiation recently. During a consultation, we will be able to inspect the skin and discuss with patients their individual aesthetic goals.

We typically recommend 3-6 treatments spaced approximately 4 weeks apart. Every patient is different and the number of treatments needed depends on the severity of your skin condition.

Patients see a reduction in pore size, improvement in fine lines and wrinkles, tighter, more rejuvenated skin, and improved overall appearance of skin.

We recommend avoiding makeup after a microneedling procedure for 24 hours and any products containing retinol or acid for one week.
