Microneedling Overview
Microneedling is a non-surgical cosmetic procedure that rejuvenates and revitalizes your skin. Also known as collagen induction therapy, microneedling involves using tiny, sterilized needles to prick the skin. These small wounds prompt your body to produce more collagen and elastin, which helps heal the skin, making it look younger. This innovative technique reduces the appearance of fine lines, wrinkles, acne scars, stretch marks, and sun damage by stimulating the skin’s natural healing process.
How Microneedling Works
Microneedling involves making tiny punctures in the skin to create minor injuries. This prompts the skin to heal itself by producing more collagen and elastin. The result is a smoother, more even skin tone and texture, along with a reduction in the appearance of scars, acne, and wrinkles.
Benefits of Microneedling Treatment
Microneedling offers a range of benefits. It helps reduce pore size, smooths fine lines and wrinkles, tightens skin, and improves overall skin appearance. Boosting collagen production firms and smooths the skin, enhancing its texture. Additionally, microneedling increases the absorption of skincare products, making them more effective. Suitable for all skin types, this non-surgical treatment is an excellent option for achieving rejuvenated, radiant skin.
Combining Microneedling Treatment with Other Procedures
Combining microneedling with other aesthetic treatments can significantly enhance your results. For example, adding MOXI laser treatment can amplify the benefits of microneedling by targeting issues such as hyperpigmentation, uneven skin tone, dullness, and uneven texture. Using these two treatments together addresses different layers of the skin, offering more comprehensive rejuvenation than either treatment alone, resulting in skin that looks younger, smoother, and more refreshed.
Microneedling Procedure
Microneedling is a non-invasive, non-surgical procedure that uses tiny micro-needles to create micro-injuries in the skin, which stimulates collagen production to improve acne scars, fine wrinkles, and the texture and tone of the skin.
During a microneedling procedure, a topical cream may be applied to minimize discomfort. Treatments typically take about 30 minutes. The microneedling device is applied to the treatment area and most patients feel a slight vibration or tingling sensation, which is the device creating controlled skin injury. The body responds by increasing collagen to the treatment area and healing any imperfections. The result is smoother, more vibrant skin.
Microneedling Results & Recovery
After a microneedling procedure, you may appear as though you have a sunburn and the skin may feel warm and tight. Some patients at Pittman experience bruising or swelling which should subside within a few hours. Microneedling can be repeated until you see optimal results, which can take several treatments.
Candidates for Microneedling
Anyone with large pores, fine lines or wrinkles, dull or saggy skin, or acne scars can benefit from microneedling. Microneedling is safe on all skin types but should not be used on skin with an active infection or if you have used Accutane or have had radiation recently. During a consultation, we will be able to inspect the skin and discuss with patients their individual aesthetic goals.
Before, during, and after
What To Expect Before a Microneedling Treatment
Before your microneedling session in Athens, you’ll have a consultation with one of our expert aestheticians to discuss your treatment goals and answer any questions you may have. We’ll then create a personalized treatment plan tailored to your needs.
To minimize the risk of bleeding or bruising, avoid sun exposure, retinol products, exfoliants, certain supplements, alcohol, and aspirin several days before your appointment.
What To Expect During a Microneedling Treatment
Before your microneedling treatment, a topical numbing agent will be applied to ensure comfort. A small handheld device with fine needles will gently penetrate your skin, creating micro-injuries that stimulate collagen and elastin production. This process results in smoother and tighter skin. Most people describe the sensation as a light, prickly feeling.
What To Expect After a Microneedling Treatment
After a microneedling procedure, your skin may appear sunburned and feel warm and tight. Some patients experience minor bruising or swelling, usually subsiding within a few hours. Multiple treatments may be necessary for optimal results, with improvements in skin quality and a brighter complexion becoming noticeable within 1 to 6 weeks. We recommend avoiding makeup 24 to 48 hours post-treatment and products containing retinol or acids for one week. You can generally resume regular activities on the same day.
