Does microneedling hurt?
Microneedling is quickly becoming a popular treatment at plastic surgery centers and dermatologists’ offices, and for good reason: this non-invasive procedure helps speed up cellular turnover while minimizing the appearance of wrinkles, fine lines, and even hyperpigmentation.
In other words, a few microneedling treatments could be all you need to get the complexion of your dreams!
However, many patients feel skeptical about undergoing microneedling treatments because, well, it has the word “needling” in it.
So exactly how uncomfortable are microneedling treatments? And what does it feel like to have microneedling done on your skin?
Does Microneedling Hurt?
Microneedling can be uncomfortable without the right preparation. Your provider should place a numbing cream on your face about 20 minutes before your microneedling procedure begins. This gives your skin enough time to go completely numb before the microneedling process begins.
If your microneedling provider doesn’t use numbing cream, ask for ice packs to help prepare yourself for the treatment. If no preparation is provided to you at all, it may be worth finding another microneedling provider.
What Does Microneedling Feel Like?
When done properly, microneedling can feel like mild scratching on the surface of your skin. A few patients have noted that their upper lip areas felt the most sensitive, but even then, the discomfort is minimal.
When Will I See Results from Microneedling?
Results can vary, but you’ll usually see the effects of your microneedling treatment about four to six weeks after your final procedure. Some results are immediately visible, though, many clients remark that their skin looks more rejuvenated and feels firmer right after the microneedling process.
