About Chemical Peels
Chemical peels are a popular option for many people around the world. An acid solution is applied to your skin to remove the top layers (epidermis). This solution is designed to treat skin discoloration, and scars, improve skin tone and texture, and fine lines and wrinkles.
Once healed, the skin that is revealed is more youthful, smooth, and clear. There are three depths of chemical peels available – light, medium, and deep. The type that is suitable for you will depend on what your desired results are.
Chemical Peel Depths
Each depth is designed for a different skin problem. For example, a light chemical peel (also referred to as a superficial peel) removes the outer layer of skin and can treat dryness, uneven skin tone, acne, and fine wrinkles.
A medium chemical peel focuses on the middle layer of skin and is typically used for deeper wrinkles, uneven skin tone, and acne scars. Whereas with a deep chemical peel, will remove the mid to lower level of the skin and is suitable for scars, precancerous growths, and deeper wrinkles.
Using unique formulas, is a more effective alternative to microdermabrasion. Here at our treatment center, the formula we use is gentle on the skin and is designed to rejuvenate it.
Chemical peel treatments are the ultimate treatments if you’re looking to improve the appearance of your skin, and we’re proud to offer these at the Pittman Plastic Surgery!
Chemical Peel Timing
It is important to know that each type of chemical peel treatment has its own recovery period and recommended schedule.
Light Peel Schedule
For a light chemical peel, you can expect the skin to heal between 3-5 days after the treatment.
It is recommended that you wait between 4 and 6 weeks before you have another peel. Despite
Deep Peel Schedule
As a deep chemical peel works to remove skin cells from the mid to lower layer of your dermis, it is a more intense treatment than the above options. Using a strong solution can lead to redness and peeling of the skin for up to two weeks following the treatment.
It will also require one to two weeks off of work. It is recommended that you only have a deep chemical peel treatment every three years or more and these peel results are subtle at first, after repeated treatments and the right aftercare, you should notice extraordinary results.
Medium Peel Schedule
For a medium chemical peel, as it penetrates a deeper level of skin than a light chemical peel, the healing process will be a little different.
Following the treatment, your skin will feel dry and tight for the first 24 hours, and then the peeling process will begin. You may experience peeling and/or flaking for 3-5 days. This will take up to 10 days to heal and you will notice a significant improvement in the tone and texture of your skin.
To maintain the results in the long term, it is recommended that you repeat the treatment every three to nine months. re-performed by your board-certified plastic surgeon.
