Photofacial Treatments: The Power of Light for Beautiful Skin
Sun damage, toxins, and lifestyle can contribute to an overall appearance that is less radiant. Photofacial treatments are an amazing treatment that can help restore your skin to its natural beauty, making it smoother, clearer, more radiant, and younger-looking.
What is a photofacial?
A photofacial is a skin rejuvenation treatment that uses light to improve the appearance of your skin without invasive procedures. Historically, this has been achieved by treatments utilizing intense pulse light (IPL) devices. The great news is that advancements have been made in these treatments to make them safer and more effective, which is why we have obtained Sciton’s BBL (broadband light) device.
The light energy delivered by Sciton’s advanced BBL device gently heats the upper layers of your skin. The heat stimulates skin turnover, skin regeneration, and collagen and elastin formation, giving your skin a smooth, soft, and youthful appearance.
BBL photofacials are FDA-approved non-invasive cosmetic treatments that are performed in a doctor’s office. There’s no downtime involved, and the treatments carry a very low risk of complications.
What is a photofacial?
Pittmans team can use the BBL energy to treat a wide range of skin conditions, including signs of aging, loss of skin firmness, age spots, acne, freckles, rosacea, and small blood vessels.
This is a revolutionary treatment that can help treat years of sun damage and environmental damage to the skin, helping you look youthful and radiant year after year – all with a quick, convenient, non-invasive, in-office treatment.
Why choose Sciton’s BBL?
The Sciton BBL platform is one of the most powerful IPL devices on the market. It uses state-of-the-art technology to deliver light energy at higher peak power and faster speeds. The system features a range of wavelengths to effectively treat various skin issues. Sciton’s BBL device also features patented CoolComfort technology that uses sapphire crystals to precisely control temperatures and makes the treatments very comfortable for patients.
Photofacial FAQ's
How long does a photofacial take?
Each photofacial treatment takes anywhere from 20 minutes to an hour to complete, depending on the treatment area and skin conditions being treated.
How many photofacials do I need?
You will see a noticeable improvement in your skin after your very first broadband light (BBL) photofacial treatment. However, maximum benefit is seen with a series of treatments. Most people need 3-6 BBL sessions to get optimum results. Our state-licensed aesthetician, Tabatha Bourchier, can help you decide the number of BBL sessions you will need depending on your skin condition and aesthetic goals.
Is a photofacial painful?
A BBL photofacial causes little to no pain. Some patients may require topical numbing cream, but in general, most people can tolerate BBL treatments well without a local anesthetic.
How long does it take to recover from a photofacial?
A BBL photofacial is a non-invasive treatment with no downtime. You can drive yourself home after your BBL photofoacial appointment and resume all normal activities. There can be some minor redness in the skin, which typically goes away in a few hours to a few days.
You should know that BBL treatment can make sun spots and age spots temporarily darker by causing the pigment to rise to the surface, but the spots ultimately fade away in 3-5 days.
Also, your skin can be more sensitive to the sun after a BBL photofacial, so it’s important to avoid excessive sun exposure and be diligent about sun protection in the days following your BBL treatment.
Are photofacial results permanent?
Yes, the results of a photofacial are permanent. However, your skin will continue to age and develop additional sun damage over time. A maintenance photofacial 3-4 times a year after the initial series of photofacials will keep you looking your best.
How often can you get a photofacial?
Photofacials are non-surgical, non-invasive treatments and can be performed once every 4 weeks until you get the desired results.
Is photofacial safe?
A Sciton BBL photofacial is one of the safest light energy-based treatments available. It can be used safely on a wide variety of Fitzpatrick Skin Types. If you have darker skin tones, we suggest you consult with our state-licensed medical aesthetician, Tabatha, to ensure you are an appropriate candidate.
If you are not, we offer other methods to help you achieve your facial rejuvenation goals. Like all cosmetic procedures, there is a risk of side effects, including redness, swelling, scarring, blistering, and skin pigmentation.
You can lower your risk of complications by choosing a licensed and experienced aesthetic medical professional to perform your photofacial. Pittman Plastic Surgery has years of experience delivering these types of services to our patients.
